2018 EVENTS
ST. MARY'S FLOWER FESTIVAL WEEKEND
25th to 27th August 2018
The Flower Festival over the August Bank Holiday went very well, apart from awful weather on Sunday when it rained most of the day, resulting in our Songs of Praise service having to be held inside the Church. Of course this did have the advantage of everyone being able to enjoy the beautiful flowers in Church.
There were a reasonable number of people viewing the beautiful floral displays. This year the theme was Television Programmes and the flower arrangers had some excellent ideas, such as 'The Great British Bake Off' (who would have thought of a flower arrangement in a mixing bowl, or on a wooden spoon?)
The alter theme was 'Songs of Praise', with displays of hymns such as 'Amazing Grace' and the wonderful and inspirational display on the East Window of sunflowers depicting 'Morning has broken'.
The Sid Bolan Big Band Concert, held on Saturday evening in the Church grounds, was wonderful and, fortunately, we were blessed with fine weather for the evening. Many people came, some bringing their own picnics, and this year the refreshment tent stayed open serving ploughman's, cakes, teas and coffees. The band played many of the firm favourites, such as 'Lady is a Tramp' and many more in the style of Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman. The concert raised the great sum of £955.
Despite losing a day because of the weather, the total raised, including the concert, was £3,700. We are very thankful for the efforts of people living outside the village in the running of this event, with heartfelt thanks to the flower arrangers, marquee erectors, stall holders etc.
It has been decided for next year that the Flower Festival will be held on 20th and 21st July. This is before the shools break up and, hopefully, more people will be around and not on holiday. The Band, who always enjoy coming to us, have been booked for the Saturday evening.

STRAWBERRY CREAM TEA
16th June 2018
The Strawberry Cream Tea held at the Village Hall on Saturday 16th June was again a success, raising £650 for St. Mary's Church funds, topping last year's figure by £40.
Many people came and enjoyed home made scones, jam, cream and strawberries, together with tea and coffee and there was a lovely atmosphere during the whole afternoon.
Many thanks to Audrey Pegrum for organising the event and to all her helpers who served the teas; washed up, sold raffle tickets, cakes and jams, and cleared the hall after the event.
QUIZ NIGHT
16th March 2018
A very enjoyable evening was had at our Quiz Night on 16th March. £566 was raised for Church funds and we are very grateful to Angela and Steve Tuff for organising and running the quiz and to Audrey Pegrum for organising the event.
Thanks also to everyone who supported us.
WORLD DAY OF PRAYER
Friday 2nd March 2018
This year's service was written by the women of Suriname and the theme was
'All God's Creation is Very Good'
Our service was due to be held at the Baptist Church, Ramsden Bellhouse but, unfortunately the service had to be cancelled due to very heavy snow.
